Temple Of Doom
The Kagoshima Class Mobile Airfield is, according to its creator Koichiro Nakayama, a “symbolic representation of the Empire of the Blazing Sun’s majestic power and might”. To most other people it is a humoungous representation of what you can do with tens of thousands of tons of Sturginium enhanced metal!
At 608 feet long, 280 feet tall and 288 feet wide this is an amazing feat of engineering. Only the elite, the truly gifted pilots of the Empire are allowed to serve on a Kagoshima. This is, in part, because of its privileged status in the Empire’s military, but also because take offs and landings are not a trivial matter. Landings at the rear of the model are made under the massive Shinto/Shrine command centre, and you really do not want to make a hash of that approach.
This is the most complicated model I have made for Dystopian Wars and although I got a bit carried away with its detailing, the result is exactly what I had hoped for. The Shinto/Shrine building at the rear is a component I am very proud of, right down to the banners, and I think it captures the aesthetic of ornate oriental buildings, like the Iwashimizu Hachiman-gū shrine in Kyoto. I’m really looking forward to making more Blazing Sun ground vehicles in 2012.
