Shroud Mages

The rift that split the Dwarven race many centuries ago created two opposing factions; those who relied upon engineering, and those who embraced the elemental magic. The latter named themselves the Shroud Mages.

Obsessed with the power of the heavens, what their ships lack in elegance, they make up for with sheer power. Enhanced by their flesh-corrupting arts, this fleet is enough to make any race quake before it.

Shroud Mages - Enigma Class Flagship

Shroud Mages - Enigma Class Flagship

The Enigma Class Flagship is a floating fortress able to fight off airborne and surface threats equally adeptly. Its broadsides laying down a dominating barrage of fire, while its turret gunners scan the battlefield looking for targets.

Shroud Mages - Lurker/Illuminator Class Frigates

Shroud Mages - Lurker/Illuminator Class Frigates

The Shroud Mages are canny enough to recognise a classic hull design, and their addition of the Illuminate and Misdirection abilities to the already-dangerous Lurker Class Frigate, created the Illuminator Class Frigate; a dangerous addition to any fleet.

Shroud Mages - Tormentor Class Heavy Cruiser

Shroud Mages - Tormentor Class Heavy Cruiser

The Tormentor Class Heavy Cruiser is an aptly named piece of dark machinery. Its guaranteed extra speed, improved firepower and ramming ability over a standard cruiser make it a terror for any opposing commander to face.

Shroud Mages - Invoker of Darkness

Shroud Mages - Invoker of Darkness

This priest is a student of magic, an Invoker. These priests study one of the six elements that this race hold in high regard: air, earth, fire, water, light and dark. Their sphere of power is used across Shroud society, from healing to warfare. This Invoker has embraced the Element of Dark, and as such controls massively destructive forces, but at a great loss to his body.

Like all Shroud Mages he wears a metallic face mask, partly to hide his identity from the enemy, but in his case to cover horrific scars to his flesh that have been caused by his incantation of the dark elements. You can see from the picture that his flesh is already taking on a pallid colour and his veins are already breaking the weakened flesh.

In his right hand is his ceremonial hammer, a weapon made from sacred metals that are used to channel the elements. In his left hand is a book that has been with this priest since for decades, or possibly centuries.

The Book of Learning is presented to a student when they enter into an apprenticeship with a Grand Master at the age of 5 years. Within the tome are all wisdoms imparted to the student throughout the teachings of his Master.
