Dindrenzi Federation

Dindrenzi Federation

The humans who explored and colonized the Outer Reach were strong-willed, independent people. Bearing the brunt of first contact with alien races, they fought desperate battles from poorly-equipped civilian vessels. From the halls of far off Earth a policy of benign caution translated into unnecessary loss of human life in the Reach. These conflicts permanently coloured the attitudes of the colonists.

In time the colonies of the Outer Reach were the most productive and dynamic worlds under the Terran Satellite Charter. Faced with a growing shortage of raw materials at home and fearing the rising influence of their new colonies, Earth created the Terran Commonwealth. Placing governing authority firmly in the hands of the oldest colonies, the Commonwealth was clearly at attempt to control the Reach. Frustration quickly built as this became more and more obvious through the imposition of punishing taxes, tariffs, and transportation fees.

Only one man dared to stand against the tyranny of Earth. Ignatius Rense, planetary governor of Dramos, saw what the tyrants intended. He levied his own series of tariffs, taxes, and licensing mandates against shipping originating from the Hub, hoping to force them into a dialogue. Sadly, the jaded leaders of the Commonwealth would not see reason, and nearly one hundred years of war followed.

Eventually, due in large part to the sacrifices of the Rense family, the Outer Reach gained its freedom. To honour the Rense family, the new star nation was named the Dindrenzi Federation, literally ‘from the Rense’ in Ignatius’ native language. To bolster their strength the Dindrenzi reluctantly welcomed all the alien species native to the Reach into their Legislature in an attempt to create a stronger, unified, nation. But the fledgling Federation was still not safe from Terra.

In a last attempt to cow the Dindrenzi the Terrans destroyed the planet Dramos in an unprovoked nuclear attack that killed millions of innocent civilians. The resolve of the Reach could not have been bolstered more effectively, however, and even the alien Relthoza and the corporations of the Directorate stepped forward to push back the bloodthirsty forces of the Terran oppressors.

With the border now guarded by formidable new warships, most Dindrenzi Federation wanted only peace. However, even as the high emotions of wartime faded for the core systems, the border planets and the military, stirred on by the Rense System delegation and their Illosian allies, yearned for vengeance. The formation of the Kurak Alliance was seen as further insult and threat.

A council was called on the top secret Directorate planet of Zenia. Present were the Dindrenzi, their Directorate and Relthozan allies, and many smaller like-minded factions. It was decided that the only way to eliminate the Terran menace was to push them out of Fathoms Reach altogether.

The attack against the Kurak Alliance was unleashed without warning. Directorate fleets smashed through Aquan border stations and plunged deep into the Sebrutan’s territory. Relthozan armadas shattered the Sorylian border forts and crushed every military target they encountered. Alliance supply lines were thrown into disarray as the Ba'Kash clans struck from their secret bases. But the heaviest blow was reserved for the Terrans holding the Storm Zone.

A score of battle fleets struck across the border, their massive rail guns splintering a generation’s worth of capital ships in a single day. Using advanced Fold Space Drives developed by the Directorate, the Dindrenzi armadas were able to strike deeper than anyone would have believed, knocking the Terrans almost completely out of the Storm Zone in a series of lightning attacks.

Amidst the swirling debris of crushed Terran warships, The Dindrenzi War has begun.
