The Spartan Games Blog is the portal through which we will communicate major events (be they company or game related), where our model makers will chat to you about their latest creations, artists will share concept art and if we need to tell you about new rules, fixes to rules or replacements …this is the place we’ll do it.
We’re also going to be featuring a lot more short story items on our website, and we actively encourage you to share your fan related materials with us, so we can add them to the Blog. Materials should be submitted to Steve Rhodes on steve@spartangames.co.uk. Please ensure all written pieces are between 600 – 4,500 words (the latter will be split into 2 parts) No submission will be used without prior contact with the writer.
The Sun Never Sets (Part 2 of 2)
Francis had to act quickly; he had less then a minute and the Samurai warriors would be jetting aboard. He needed to get to Sergeant Bailey and the Ack Ack gunners quickly and traversing the ladders and gangways to the lower decks was not an option. “Marcus,” Francis called as he turned casually to his PARA troop corporal. “Wait here till I get back will you, we’ve got a fight on our hands I’d wager.” Francis engaged his pack by turning the rotating brass disk on the white leather chest harness. He heard the small hiss of the...

This short story was submitted to us by Featured Author Luke Loseby, a Dystopian Wars gamer who was clearly inspired to create this entertaining story. We hope you enjoy reading his work as much as we did: Francis stepped onto the bridge of the HMS Deliverer and instantly felt like the outsider, his scarlet red coat contrasting starkly against the deep blue of the other officers present. The two officers closest to the door turned briefly as he entered and then quickly returned their attention to the Captain who continued apace explaining the...

Our last blog was before the Festive Season was in full swing, so I hope you all had a great time and are enjoying 2012 so far. There’s been a fantastic amount of conversation and feedback on the updates, and I wanted to quickly thank everyone who has been involved in that. The playtesting continued throughout the seasonal break and will continue for as long as possible, so if you have any more thoughts that you want to contribute we always like to hear them. Firstly, the scientists of the Prussian Empire would like to confirm that, as...

Having released the National MARs in our State Of The Nations blog, and the Model changes and Model Assigned Rules update in our Fate Of The Nations blog, it is now time to get everything else to out you in one fell swoop. With this set of downloads, it’s probably worth re-stating that the remit of these improvements was two-fold; to balance out some of the issues in the game, and also to make the core game flow more smoothly. We’re confident that this has been achieved whilst still retaining all the fun that is integral to a game...

On December 16th we posted online our first State Of The Nations blog for Dystopian Wars, and one section, in particular, generated an amount of discussion on our Forum. The subject was that the minimum movement of a vessel in Dystopian Wars must be directly ahead. We’ve referred to this as a ‘clarification’, and not a rule change, because it was the intention of the original design that this rule be in place, and so areas of balance were created with this in mind. However, the rule was not clearly signposted, and some gaming...

With our latest releases hitting gaming tables around the world, some of the more eagle-eyed Commanders out there may have noticed that the scientists, both home and abroad, have been working overtime to improve their machinery of war. And while the boffins of the Federated States of America have been concentrating on fitting a huge artillery piece to their Gunship, the other Nations have been making more encompassing tweaks to their beloved moving arsenals. This blog details a couple of the improvements that are being made to Dystopian...

The Thunderbird Class Storm Cruiser is as deadly as it is majestic. At the heart of the ship is an ornate Orb, infused by elven magi with the powers of the heavens. Although limited in its traditional weaponry (broadsides only) the Lightning Generator at its heart is deadly. This model is one of the first wave of upgrade models to arrive for Uncharted Seas in early 2012. Our project to digitally sculpt all the models in our fantasy naval game has been hugely successful, and during its implementation we came up with a number of exciting new...

The Dragon Lords Invoker Class Cruiser is a vessel designed to ruin your opponent’s day! Although it does not pack a punch with its broadsides, its fore cannons do HURT! The hull has been streamlined for speed and reinforced to make it durable in combat. Then we have the enhanced magical capability of the model… but we’ll wait until after Christmas to tell you more about this. This model is one of the first wave of upgrade models to arrive for Uncharted Seas in early 2012. Our project to digitally sculpt all the models in our...

The Imperial Human Elemental Ship is the first vessel from this race specifically designed to carry a magic user into combat. It is fast and heavily armoured, but light on main weaponry, and at the rear you can see an ornate shrine. Here a magic user will focus his powers before unleashing them through the portal that stands proud at the aft of the ship. We’ll have more images and details of this model’s capabilities early in the new year. This model is one of the first wave of upgrade models to arrive for Uncharted Seas in early...

The Iron Dwarves have, since their arrival in the Uncharted Seas, been working on numerous ways to better defend themselves, new ways to secure lands once they have invaded and captured them. With forces often located in remote areas, a fortress stronghold that can be quickly erected was much called for. Dwarves being as they are, the masters of engineering and also highly competitive with each other, several designs were started. Eventually projects fell to the wayside, leaving one monstrous construction to win the day: the Guardian Class...
